A very attractive teak, Gordon Russell twin pedestal desk dating from the late 1950s. This one is an excellent piece of Mid Century furniture with well toned teak and it goes without saying, fabulous build and design quality.
Gordon Russell was one of Britain’s great furniture designers and the Gordon Russell Design Museum is worthy of a lengthy visit if you wish to know more about the company and how it shaped furniture post war in Great Britain.
It’s a heavy sturdy piece with a run of 3 drawers to either side with brass coloured pull handles. The top of teak veneer is nicely planed to the edges giving it some real mid-century style, as well as those angled legs. As you would expect the desk looks good from all angles so could be placed in the centre of a room and not just against a wall. A stunning desk from an iconic furniture maker that will look great in anyone’s home office.
The desk does show signs of previous use and was used in an office for most of its life. The desk has been rubbed back and refinished with buffing hard wax to give a vintage shine to the teak wood along with protection. There are some scuffs to the top and marks to the desk sides and legs. Condition wise, overall the desk is. 7.5 out of 10 and has a very strong industrial feel with mid century charm.
