This is a Richard Hornby sideboard crafted from solid afromosia wood for Fyne Ladye Furniture. These elegant designs were retailed by esteemed shops like Heals of London. During the late 1950s and early '60s, afromosia was the preferred wood choice before teak took over. Fyne Ladye Furniture was at its prime during this period.
The distinct features of this piece include recessed handles and reeded drawers, common in Richard Hornby's designs. Fyne Ladye's craftsmanship was exceptional, and their use of solid wood, other than oak, was quite unique for the time, targeting a discerning market.
We've given it a full refinishing with hardwax oil and made a small veneer chip repair on the cupboard door's top front. Can be seen in the pictures.
