A British John Herbert designed for A. Younger Ltd Teak `Volany` Sideboard. circa 1950s/60s, with 2 door cupboards, each cupboard with one adjustable height shelf and 4 draws to centre with top draw lined in green baize with dividers for cutlery. Sideboard stands on four shaped tapering legs. The top of the sideboard is slightly curved front and gives an extra premium look to a high end made piece of mid century furniture. Solid afromosia top, sides and structure, teak door and drawer fronts, attractive afromosia handles.
Younger were renowned for their high quality workmanship and mainly retailed through the Department Store ‘Heals’.
The sideboard has been cleaned thoroughly. Then has been refinished in hard wax oil. This has given a deep shine to the afromosia and a water repellent finish. There is a large cup ring on the top that couldn’t be removed. There are no loose parts or any damage. The sideboard shows minor use and has been extremely well looked after. This is a stunning example of high end english furniture from the mid century. I would say that the condition is a 8 out of 10.
